3 designers who I was not too familiar with before, but who blew me away with their collections at this year’s Paris Fashion Week were Giambattista Valli, Ralph & Russo and, one of Cheryl Tweedy’s favourites, Stéphane Rolland and here I shall give a quick summary of each.
Valli played with both structure and colour as well as displaying a multitude of different sleeve lengths and varying the necklines from strapless gowns to shoulder-high necklines leading to an interesting and very pleasing runway. Seen here are my highlights of Valli’s collection:
Next we have Ralph & Russo. As the 1st and only British house to be elected by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture and to be allowed to show its collection on the official schedule at Paris Haute Couture Week Ralph & Russo had a lot to live up to and they did not disappoint! Although a British brand the fashion duo kicked things off with numerous ensembles which can only be described as Parisian chic. They, like many other designers, played with pastels, but tended to stay true to classic, simplistic style which walked beautifully. From blacks and whites to pastels to sheers and finally to a deep red ball gown Ralph & Russo laid everything on the table which resulted in a show-stopping runway. Finally, we have the wonderful Stéphane Rolland. Rolland brought a vibrancy to the runway which other designers did not by using bold oranges and yellows instead of sticking to the pastel pallet which immediately made him stand out. He also played with volume in many different areas of his garments. In doing this, however, he still managed to present a lightness and fluidity each time that he played with volume. Another focal point in Rolland’s collection is a strong use of latex. All of this being said, my standout from Rolland’s show HAS to be the impeccable, stunning, AMAZING, burnt orange gown that took over the runway. See some of Rolland’s works of art right here:
