Emmys 2015 – Best Fashion of The Night.

Last night brought about one of my favourite nights in the celebrity fashion calendar, namely the highly anticipated Emmys.

For those of you who don’t know, The Emmys is essentially the Oscars of the television world and in true Emmy fashion, all of America’s TV’s biggest stars arrived. From gowns to cocktail dresses and jumpsuits to just plain old suits, there was a variety of styles sported on the night and it certainly lead to a feast for the eyes.

Admittedly, I love posting about the worst looks of the night (it allows me to unleash the inner bitch in me), but as I haven’t posted in a while I thought that it’d be better to start things off on a positive note. So without further adieu, let’s scroll through and see the most stunning and successful looks of the 2015 Emmys Red Carpet.

Sarah Hyland in Zac Posen with Ofira Rings:

Flourishing, Sarah made her stamp both in fashion and on the red carpet at last year’s Emmys, and this year she has furthered her reign, triumphing as queen of the Emmys. Differing from last year’s Christian Siriano ensemble, Sarah has gone for a much more mature aesthetic this time round and boy did she knock it out of the park. The simple yet chic Zac Posen creation fits the star like a glove and that neckline is just to die for. What I really love about the look however, is that she kept it young and fresh by placing her bracelet so far up her arm – and those Lorraine Schwartz earrings are just stunning. Her stylist needs a raise!

Claire Danes in Prada with Cartier jewels and a Tyler Alexandra clutch:

Although not always the cream of the crop, Claire has certainly hit the nail on the head for me here. This almost nautical inspired gown is chic and sexy whilst adding a flare of youth into Claire’s style portfolio. Perfect for her boyish figure, this dress is made all the more eye-catching by the thick chains and beautiful embellishment and like Sarah above, she finished the look off perfectly, with minimal accessories being the key in this case.

Sophie Turner sporting Galvin, Jimmy Choo and Forevermark:

Perhaps I’m a tad biased as I am absolutely obsessed with the woman, but someone else who championed the carpet is Sophie Turner. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful starlets to emerge in recent years, Sophie is statuesque and has a regal air about her, which is why she is one of the few who could pull of this look. The pop of the brilliant blue top offsets her red hair with ease and the Forevermark necklace is a spectacular finish. She is breathtaking.

Emma Roberts in Jenny Packham with Martin Katz jewels:

Old Hollywood Glamour at its finest, Emma is releasing her inner vixen here and I am loving it! Always one to have the smoulder and pout down, Emma has added oomph to her look with sultry, wavy hair and that plunging neckline. If there’s anything that makes me a tiny bit unsure about this dress it’s that I think I would also like to see it in a different colour (red perhaps), but asides from that and in the colour that it is now, she looks marvellous.

Zoe Kazan in Miu Miu:

I can already tell that this will be one of the controversial choices of the post, but quite frankly – I don’t care. A demure beauty, Zoe is a relatively unknown starlet, even though she has a lucrative career. That is why I think that this dress is perfect for her. Nominated last night, Zoe turned up in a stunning number, yet still didn’t overdo it as so many other did (keep your eyes of for my worst post later today). She look elegant and quirky, which I think defines her as an actress. Finally, the side-swept bob was another chic yet understated part of her look and it finished it with ease.

Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell:

Dressed in a gown designed by her stylist, Gaga is looking as classy as we’ve ever seen her. This new look is perfect for the star and shows yet another facet to the talented singer/actress. I really appreciate that she donned this gown as she is showing support for her stylist who just released his first ever line at New York Fashion Week. Solidarity in this case has lead to a solid, sublime look.

Laverne Cox in Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa and Fred Leighton jewellery:

Can we please take a collective moment and just take in how ravishing Laverne Cox is looking here? Always pretty, Laverne has now turned up the sex appeal to boot! Her body is en pointe and that blue is sublime against her skin-tone. Simple yet sexy – nice work!

Jaimie Alexander in Armani Privé:

Very different and very chic! This look is certainly a stand out. With a sleek, futuristic vibe, Jaimie is drawing us all in and keeping our attention with the sultry look in her eyes. Modern, edgy and fabulous – this is a great look. Although, I have to say that I wasn’t too keen on her making out with her husband on the carpet – you’re married, keep that for home love…

Amanda Peet in Michael Kors with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch:

Amanda Peet2

This dress was exquisite on the red carpet. Here, Amanda has been styled perfectly and everything in this look is superb – which is why she made my list of course! One thing that I do have to say though is, that although everything is stunning, Amanda doesn’t quite look comfortable on the carpet. Next time Amanda, make sure to wear the dress and to not let it wear you – great look though!

January Jones in Ulyana Sergeenko paired with Tiffancy & Co.:

Jumping to the forefront (see what I did there?) is January Jones in a ravishing green jumpsuit (just in case you didn’t…).

January looks absolutely beautiful here and this is a true example of how you can relate something seen as more casual to a high fashion event. The green complements her skin tone and fair features seamlessly and this is a look which oozes confidence. Well done January!

Niecy Nash carrying a Swarovski clutch:

Niecy Nash 2

This ‘Scream Queens’ star had me screaming with delight when I saw her on the carpet! This is the definition of a dress which fits to your curves. Looking absolutely sensational Niecy’s waist nails and embellished gown all add up to a magnificent ensemble. A bit booby? Perhaps – but hey, if you’ve got them – flaunt them!

Julia Lewis-Dreyfus in Safiyaa paird with Chopard jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch:

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Finishing off my list of gorgeous gowns is Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The comedy royal’s look was timeless and elegant. This is one of those times where women realise that it’s OK to be simple and chic. Is this something that we’ve never seen before? No. But is is something that I want to see again? Most definitely yes! What Julia is showing here is that if you take off the bells and whistles and just let tailoring and sophistication do the talking then you’re onto a winner.

Although, dresses and jumpsuits stole the show, I just want to leave you guys with a few pictures of my favourite suits of the night:

Tacky and Underwhelming: Swarovski S/S 2015

Although a show that would never enthuse me too much, I have to say that this year’s Spring/Summer Swarovski collection was definitely a disappointment. Swarovski did display some cute, fun outfits which I can imagine on some modern young ladies, but overall his showcased an array of in your face and tacky Swarovski’s creations. The collection began with some charming grey ensembles which although had modern aspects ultimately lacked the innovation needed to make that extra impact. Continuing on from the grey palette, Swarovski went to the complete opposite end of the spectrum with a multitude of gaudy, tacky, embellished and ugly designs. Between the brilliant, garish colours, unimaginative garbs and categorical lack of finesse much of this collection failed to hit the mark, made more upsetting by the fact that other designers showcased stunning collections entailing many of the aspects used here – proving that the main thing missing in Swarovski’s colourful designs was style.

Tending to both males and females, Swarovski made a number of faults. In the female line he fell short due to the aforementioned lack-luster pieces, tacky designs and other underwhelming items. The male fashion encompassed none of this, but was very 90’s – and not in a good way. Although some of the male designs could have worked nicely, it was the styling and execution which didn’t do it for me. Personally, dog-tags, shiny shoes and wearing two watches are three things which do not work in this collection. Overall, for me at least, the male line lacked inspiration and looked like it could have been from any 20-year old runway which is why I was let down in the end.

Although this is true, there were stylish pieces in the collection which could be cute on some of today’s chic, young starlets. Have a look here at the good the bad and the boring and make sure to let me know if you agree:
