Emma Watson: Red Carpet Evolution.

Image

Emma Watson is undoubtedly one of the most famous, beautiful and stylish young ladies in the world today. Born in Paris and raised in Britain Emma is the perfect combination of bringing both British elegance and Parisian chic to the table. Beginning her career as a fresh faced nine-year-old with some serious raw talent Watson has blossomed beyond belief in the last 14 years with both her gift and style growing hand-in-hand. Although always depicted as being the ‘perfect little English girl’ Emma’s fashion sense has not always been the picture of perfection and she certainly has grafted her own unique sense of style throughout the last decade, leading her to now being one of my favourite fashion darlings. As stated, Watson definitely got off on the wrong foot when it comes to her red carpet style and we’re going to have a look through her fashionable transformation right here.

So let’s get to it and begin with her first red carpet looks. Although beginning her acting career at the tender age of nine, little Emma was aged eleven when she first walked the red carpet debuting her signature style in a God awful grey, sack-like ‘gown’ paired with an ever-classy feather boa and purple snakeskin shoes, producing one of the worst fashion debuts in my memory. Yes, I feel bad for dogging on an eleven year old, but both her parents and stylist (if she had one at the time) should have been shot for letting poor young Watson to premiere her look in this dodgy ensemble:

Unfortunately her transformation was far from overnight as shown by the next two outfits. Seen here is Watson wearing a pea-green genie inspired outfit and an army print coat/pant combination with golden floral detail. Although both of these outfits failed to hit the mark Watson has to be given some credit as they do show a flare for personal style and some innate confidence, which can only be admired in a pre-teen. Emma also added make-up into the equation with these looks thus highlighting her natural beauty:

Next we have an even more unfortunate turn for young Watson. Between 2002-2003 the starlet decided to give boho chic a shot and missed the mark by a mile in a series of long, draping dresses with horrendous leather/suede accessories (paired with some clown-inspired make-up in the second shot), leaving a lot left to be desired.

Finally, the style Gods decided to take pity on poor Emma and began to give her a hand in 2004. This was first shown by her basic strapless, knee-length frock paired with a pretty pair of pumps at the New York Prisoner of Azkaban premiere. Emma followed this in a navy, tiered dress with a sheer overlay at the 2005 premiere of  The Golbet of Fire which, again paired with pumps, continued in aiding the young Brit to find her fashion feet, and although neither of these pieces were outstanding, both began to show potential for Watson.

From here on in Watson seemed to finally find her own sense of style and started to grab the attention of fashionistas worldwide. She began to do so after falling in love with powerhouse brand Chanel and wearing their stunning designs to numerous events proving that Watson and Chanel are a match made in designer heaven:

Emma continued to hit the fashion mark from here on in with numerous gorgeous garbs which enabled her to truly make her mark in the realm of fashion and led to designers flocking to dress her for any and every occasion.  Two of these pieces can be seen here. Both of these looks worked and showed her new fashion prowess, but I have to say that the second (the navy ensemble), although both pretty and stylish,  is not my cup of tea for Emma. Even though there is nothing necessarily wrong with it, Emma is just a tad too dolled up here for my liking. I much prefer when she lets her natural beauty shine and leaves us with nothing but chic elegance, which we will see later.

Although Emma certainly had a huge climb in the fashion stakes it has to be said that (for me at least) 2009-2010 was when she undoubtedly made her mark. This was when she unapologetically showed the world that she was going to wear what she wanted, she was going to do it with confidence and that there was no way that she was going to follow trends, from now on she was going to set them. Her first head-to-toe perfection look was at the Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince premiere where she wore a stunning, floor length Ossie Clark print gown which paired with cute, pulled back hair, displayed an effortlessness which cannot be matched. After this she wore a golden custom-made Burberry dress with a zipper down the front, a black belt, black chunky shoes, simple hair and sexy eye make-up which altogether added up to what is one of my favourite looks that Watson has ever worn, if not taking the crown. It is chic, it is sexy and yet it still has class, something which can only be pulled off by few.

2010 was also the year in which Watson famously chopped off her long, golden locks and instead sported a cute, fashionable, pixie cut. This cut has been seen on a multitude of young celebs since, but Emma was one of the very first to brave it and she definitely deserves credit for that. Along with this new cut she decided to vamp things up in the wardrobe department leading to a huge turning point in Emma’s fashion career. This was the point when not just some people, but everybody knew to take her seriously in the fashion world. One such outfit is her controversial lace number below. This dress was an absolute knock-out and definitely a huge turning point in Watson’s fashion career. It was her most grown-up look to date and really made her the star of the moment. What finished this look perfectly, however, is the confidence in which she executed it, undoubtedly making it a time when she told the world that she had arrived. Upon reflection, however,  it is just a little too ice-skater-esque for my liking and her tan a little to dark. Thus, although a stunning piece at the time I prefer where she went afterwards as she returned to the more timeless, effortless beauty which I think she truly is by wearing more chic, demure and toned down pieces which is where her strengths lie in the fashion world.

Emma then continued down her high-fashion path with more stunning outfits during the premiere season of the final installment in the Harry Potter series. She continued to prove that she was not an actress to be overlooked, but a star in the making by pulling out all the stops and turning heads wherever she went. Even though there were mistakes along the way you can always see the fashion behind everything she wears and we forgive Emma for these mistakes as she is just too damn amazing to put in the bad books:

As you can see from reading through this post so far, Emma Watson has improved beyond belief and has become one of the most fashionable young women on the plant today. All of these stunning outfits that you have seen however have nothing on her most recent looks. In the past 2 years Emma has taken yet another step out of the fashion box and she truly has become an icon in her own right. She is effortless, she is chic, she is young Britain personified. Emma Watson has stolen my fashion heart and even though many may think that I am overestimating the beauty, it is safe to say that she is currently number one on the list of my celebrity fashion goddesses. Here are her best looks of the last two years to see if I can convince any of you to tag along on the Emma Watson style crush train:

This latest, more grunge Emma has really gotten me excited!

So there we have it, Emma Watson’s amazing red carpet evolution. Yes she still makes mistakes every now and again and yes a lot of her looks are subject to opinion, mais á mon avis Emma is one of the most stylish women on the plant and she only seems to be getting better, and I can’t wait to see if she can find any room for improvement!
