Summer Style Funk Up – Male Fashion: 3.1 Philip Lim S/S2014

If like me you are stuck in a style slump and don’t know what exactly you need to inject into your summer wardrobe for that extra bit of oomph then Philip Lim is the man for you. Lately I’ve been buying copious amounts of clothes, yet when I dissect my purchases everything seems to be the same which is why I am now thanking the Lord himself for allowing Mr. Lim to come into my life! Lim’s collection is full to the brim with cool, suave clothes which combine the perfect amount of fashion and sass for the upcoming summer season. From coats to sleeveless shirts, pants to shorts and knitwear to shades, Lim has everything covered for every type of summer weather imaginable and every piece is just as fierce as the last.

What I perhaps love most about the collection is the brilliance that Lim masters in pushing the fashion envelope while still keeping within the realms of normality and keeping the mass market more than happy. Now follow me, if you please, while I bring you on a trip through this spring/summer hit and give you some wondrous commentary along the way.

Lim begins his collection with an array of sleeveless tops, checked pants, leather, fringe and a speckled, paint-effect pattern, all of which are gorgeous. My favourite of these pieces/techniques, however, definitely has to go to the speckled paint-effect, that and the fringe! These are two aspects which can easily be added into anyone’s wardrobe yet are subtle. They also hold their own and give a distinction that will make people look at you twice, however, making them the perfect wardrobe addition. Check them out here:

(I also LOVE this sleeveless shirt! Yes it’s a bit risque, but the cut-out holes are so unique and would be amazing on someone who can pull them off).

Continuing on, Lim introduces the best part of his collection, for me. Namely, his scintillating use of blues and greens. He uses the most stunning colours here and utilizes them to their utmost with the felt effect, shiny fabric and leather jacket being my climax of his entire collection.

Image

This coat is just so beautiful, and with this shorts it is perfection!

Image

Image

Image

This is possibly the best look for me. I absolutely adore the top and if I could afford it my Visa card would be getting a serious hit right about now!

Image

This jacket just oozes the perfect combination of cool and funk.

Tailoring then comes into play with some more plain, chill pieces which are all about the styling. It’s important to remember that no-one expects you to wear exactly what is on the runway with the shirt/short combo below being a perfect example. The look is gorgeous and cool, yet preppy at the same time and although oversized it can be pared back into a more demure look for us mere mortals to wear. I do absolutely love the extremity shown by the look however!

Image

Image

Continuing on Lim goes for some more bold colour choices which might not necessarily be to your taste, but they definitely continue on the path of funking it up and making your wardrobe that bit more desirable (I do like the jacket quite a lot though)!

Image

Image

Finally, Lim closes the show with one of the most prominent themes of men’s 2014 summer fashion… Yes, you’ve probably guessed correctly – floral prints! What he doesn’t do, however, is sport the generic, usual floral looks. Instead he maintains his cool edge by accessorizing his florals to perfection. He does so by making sure that no two looks are alike (with the exception of the last two). By varying his looks from floral tops with coloured pants, floral pants with plain tops, floral shorts with tops and vice versa, Lim illustrates to us the multitude of ways in which we can wear this look and has an option for every taste. I honestly love every single one of his floral looks, but my favourites would have to be the florals paired with black, studded pieces and the final two looks which showcase a floral overload with floral tops and bottoms all in the one look, making for the perfect fashion statement. Have a look at these terrific triumphs below:

Kendall, Kylie and Kesha: Best Dressed Billboards Awards 2014

Last Night’s Billboard Music Awards was a show not to be missed with excitement found at every corner. From Jennifer Lopez being the FIRST EVER female recipient of the Icon Award and Michael Jackson performing in hologram form, it certainly was a feast for the eyes. Something which was not so amazing however, was the fashion displayed on the night. Thankfully some of our starlets picked up the slack and these shall be shown below.

To kick things off we having the sibling duo who stole the show on the carpet: the up-and-coming Jenner sisters, Kendall and Kylie.

Image

Both girls rocked it on the night in stunning ensembles with just the right amount of edge for the cool awards show. My best dressed gong has to go to Kendall though as she just knocked it out of the park! Dressed in sequined, leather pants, a white halter crop-top and some killer heels the now famous model looked every bit the part of a young beauty making her mark and looked ever so sultry whilst doing so.

Image

Kylie was hot on her heels, however, in a figure-hugging white dress paired with some cool accessories (don’t know if I love or hate the shoes though)! What really made Kylie’s look pop for me was her collected, laid-back green hair, maintaining her own edge. The fading green tips added that extra oomph to her look and I commend her for sticking to it, especially as she is a young girl and now is the time for her to take major fashion risks!

Image

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the next lady on my best dressed list is… Kesha! Kesha looked elegant and almost had a regal air to her in a sweetheart neck-lined, figure hugging, mermaid tailed gown. The grey dress with black lace overlay looked absolutely stunning on the singer, but the cherry on top had to be her absolutely flawless hair and make-up. Although the gown itself isn’t necessarily my favourite in the world, it has to be said that Kesha looks amazing compared to how she usually presents herself and I am glad to give her the credit she deserves.

Image

Two other stars who looked lovely on the night, but who I don’t quite get the hype over are Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj. Both stars did look beautiful, but for me their outfits were just a tad too much on the boring side. Neither of the looks were in any way new or innovative with Jenny’s dress being typical of her throughout the decades and Nicki’s being far too reminiscent of the black gown that she wore recently to this year’s MTV Movie Awards! Have a look below and let me know what you think:

Image

Image

Finally, I’m going to add in one constructive criticism in this piece purely because I love her, namely; Iggy Azalea. Iggy is an amazing talent, but her style has always been either too sexy or lack luster and last night it proved to be the latter. The Australian rapper donned a gown similar to Jennifer Lopez’s, but it just did not hit the mark. What could have made the look so much  better, however, and what could have perhaps even made it a best dressed, would have been if she cut off the damn sleeves! This would have completely transformed the red halter gown and paired with a high pony or some slicked back blonde locks would have turned the outfit from drab to fab in a heartbeat. Moral of the story: don’t be afraid to put your own twist on the designs Iggy!

So there you have it, my best dressed of the 2014 Billboard Music Awards with a few random bits thrown in!

Jill Stuart Spring/Summer 2014 Campaign.

May has finally arrived and with that comes the glorious season that is summer. Au revoir to coats and jeans and say a big hello to skirts, frocks and sexy little numbers! Of course fashion is still key, but summer is definitely the best time to show off that bod that you’ve been working on, vamp up your style a bit, and for Irish girls at least, strut your stuff without having to wear three layers of tights for once! One collection which entails all of the above is Jill Stuart’s chic, structured, yet sexy summer campaign.

In this campaign Stuart uses on-the-rise model Gracie van Gastel who, in my opinion, fits the attitude of the line perfectly. Edgy van Gastel teamed with hair and make-up by James Pecis and Aaeron de Mey, respectively, shot by Mario Testino and styled by Beth Fenton is absolute perfection. Gracie alludes with her enchanting eyes, drawing you straight to her and the sexy fashion range. With a clear juxtaposition seen between the hard, edgy clothes and the soft, eastern inspired backdrops,  everything comes together beautifully in this shoot resulting in an amazing display of Stuart’s line.

With black and white being the only colours used in the line, leather having a huge influence and structured patterns also playing a vital role, this collection is definitely out of the norm for summer, but I absolutely love it! Have a look at van Gastel in Stuart’s flawless designs below:

MTV Movie Awards: Disasters.

As stated in my previous post, this year’s MTV Movie Awards Ceremony was a fashion nightmare. Not only did numerous ‘stars’ such as J-wow et al. assault our eyes with their terrifying wardrobe choices, but fashion favourites such as Lupita Nyong’o and Holland Roden also left us down, donning outfits which were not appealing to the eye in the slightest! Multiple stars seemed to forget that, although this is one of the most fun award ceremonies, fashion still comes first and that you can have fun whilst still letting your fashion prowess shine through. We are going to kick things off with our worst of the night (I can’t believe I’m going to say this) – Lupita Nyong’o.

Although Lupita’s outfit did entail more fashion than others and obviously had some thought put behind it, it is my worst purely due to sheer disappointment. The 12 Years A Slave actress has been the one to watch throughout every 2014 red carpet and has shone, leaving everybody else in her shadow, which is why I was so shocked when I laid my eyes upon her mutli-coloured, horrifically patterned, paneled dress. Even though her hair and make-up were flawless they could not compensate for her failed fashion choices with this ugly dress and badly matched shoes. What’s worse is that there is something about this dress that could work, but with the way it was put together, it needs to be put straight into a bin-bag and incinerated, if at all possible.

Lupita in Chanel:

Next we have another shock with Bella Thorne in a horrible, boring, pastel blue mini – with flat hair to match. At the tender age of 16, Bella can be forgiven for making fashion mistakes, but the budding starlet has been showing promise in the last year which is why I am so disappointed. It must have been difficult for Bella to decide what to wear to this show as she is a role model for young girls everywhere so couldn’t over-sexualize her look, but this is definitely not the right track to go down. I think that she should take a leaf out of her co-star Zendaya’s book and go for pieces which are more fashion-forward and stop playing it safe – after all, if she is going to make some fun fashion mistakes now is the time for her to do it!

Bella Thorne in Versace:

Our final two flops of the evening are singer Pia Mia and MTV Teen Wolf star Holland Roden. Kanye West’s latest protege, Pia, did not hit the mark in any way shape or form. From what I can see, the emerging starlet took her inspiration from ‘Arabian Nights’ and ‘Hoochie Mama’ and ended up somewhere right in the middle. Rather than making her look like Princess Jasmine, the ugly fabric, massive earrings and horrid heels all led to Mia looking like she got dressed with the lights off, leaving me less than impressed with her and her stylist. Roden, on the other hand, is usually one to knock it out of the park, but she also left me underwhelmed. She hit the carpet in a Ferragamo look, but unfortunately the dress washed her out and the tailoring was a shambles. The uninspiring dress did nothing for her figure and even her pop of colour shoes were an utter disappointment. Check out the two starlets looks here:

Pia Mia and Holland Roden:

To finish off our post, we have the two worst male looks of the night, courtesy of Drake Bell and Tyler Hoechlin. Drake donned a baby blue disaster with wave-like hair and an ugly tie and then confusingly finished the look off with white trainers. I know the fading star must be trying to get some attention, but this is definitely the wrong kind. His outfit looks like something that you might wear to your sisters communion if you were a twelve-year-old, but certainly not something appropriate for someone of twenty-seven years to wear to an awards ceremony. Then we have Hoechlin who needs to realise that just because his Teen wolf character wears clothes which are made for people half his size, does not mean that he should do the same in real life. Here he wears suit pants with a denim jacket (why?!) which appears to be so tight that if he tried to raise one of his arms over his head it would tear to shreds. He then finishes off the look with an ugly pair of brogues which distract from the rest of the look, but (if possible) in a bad way. Both of these looks are less then inspiring and here you can see why:

MTV Movie Awards 2014: Best Dressed.

For myself, along with the rest of the fashionable folks out there, this year’s MTV Movie Awards 2014 Red Carpet was an out-and-out disaster. Numerous stars strutted their stuff down the carpet, but most did so only to deliver utter disappointment. Even fashion favourites such as Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Holland Roden let us down with a multitude of horrid offenders. Some of these stars just need to realise that yes, this is a fun event, and yes, it allows you to funk up your style, but there is a way of doing so, to still remain fashion-forward and to stay true to you. Thankfully for our poor little eyes, some starlets did this and showed the rest how it is done, and the saviours of the 2014 MTV Movie Awards were: Shailene Woodley, Rihanna and Rita Ora.

Truth be told, I was not expecting to have this talented trio at the top of my list, but as I said above, each of the stars showed how to funk things up and remain true to their own personal style – proving that style is something which is in you, not something that you can buy!

We’re going to kick things off with my number one of the night, Shailene Woodley. Woodley kicks our post off in a pea-green Balmain, mid-drift baring look. The gladiator-esque skirt paired with the black, chunky strapped shoes and a black-trimmed belt leads to a perfect combination on the Divergent star. Finished off with David Yurman jewelry, this lady in leather owned the red carpet with a quiet confidence which can pulled off by few.

Next we have princess RiRi showing why she’s earned her title and oozing sex appeal like only she does. Rihanna donned the carpet in a night-gown inspired look which would have easily been a disaster on anybody else. Instead she rocked the Ulyana Sergeenko bustier and robe with an effortlessness not to be matched. Paired with pulled back, wavy hair, strapped manolos and a simple, yet eye-catching chain, Rihanna made sure that all eyes were on her.

Rihanna in Ulyana Sergeenko:

Finally, we have Rita Ora in a more classic look than the two above. Although Rita is wearing a classic, black Barbara Casasola gown, she kicks thing up a notch by showing some major cleavage. Ora accessorizes this look perfectly with a red, pouty lip and classic, va-va-voom, wavy hair, but what really polishes the look off is her Edie Parker clutch which makes the look perfect for an award show such as this. Have a look at Rita’s look here:

Emma Watson: Red Carpet Evolution.

Image

Emma Watson is undoubtedly one of the most famous, beautiful and stylish young ladies in the world today. Born in Paris and raised in Britain Emma is the perfect combination of bringing both British elegance and Parisian chic to the table. Beginning her career as a fresh faced nine-year-old with some serious raw talent Watson has blossomed beyond belief in the last 14 years with both her gift and style growing hand-in-hand. Although always depicted as being the ‘perfect little English girl’ Emma’s fashion sense has not always been the picture of perfection and she certainly has grafted her own unique sense of style throughout the last decade, leading her to now being one of my favourite fashion darlings. As stated, Watson definitely got off on the wrong foot when it comes to her red carpet style and we’re going to have a look through her fashionable transformation right here.

So let’s get to it and begin with her first red carpet looks. Although beginning her acting career at the tender age of nine, little Emma was aged eleven when she first walked the red carpet debuting her signature style in a God awful grey, sack-like ‘gown’ paired with an ever-classy feather boa and purple snakeskin shoes, producing one of the worst fashion debuts in my memory. Yes, I feel bad for dogging on an eleven year old, but both her parents and stylist (if she had one at the time) should have been shot for letting poor young Watson to premiere her look in this dodgy ensemble:

Image

Unfortunately her transformation was far from overnight as shown by the next two outfits. Seen here is Watson wearing a pea-green genie inspired outfit and an army print coat/pant combination with golden floral detail. Although both of these outfits failed to hit the mark Watson has to be given some credit as they do show a flare for personal style and some innate confidence, which can only be admired in a pre-teen. Emma also added make-up into the equation with these looks thus highlighting her natural beauty:

Image

Next we have an even more unfortunate turn for young Watson. Between 2002-2003 the starlet decided to give boho chic a shot and missed the mark by a mile in a series of long, draping dresses with horrendous leather/suede accessories (paired with some clown-inspired make-up in the second shot), leaving a lot left to be desired.

Image

Finally, the style Gods decided to take pity on poor Emma and began to give her a hand in 2004. This was first shown by her basic strapless, knee-length frock paired with a pretty pair of pumps at the New York Prisoner of Azkaban premiere. Emma followed this in a navy, tiered dress with a sheer overlay at the 2005 premiere of  The Golbet of Fire which, again paired with pumps, continued in aiding the young Brit to find her fashion feet, and although neither of these pieces were outstanding, both began to show potential for Watson.

Image

From here on in Watson seemed to finally find her own sense of style and started to grab the attention of fashionistas worldwide. She began to do so after falling in love with powerhouse brand Chanel and wearing their stunning designs to numerous events proving that Watson and Chanel are a match made in designer heaven:

Image

Emma continued to hit the fashion mark from here on in with numerous gorgeous garbs which enabled her to truly make her mark in the realm of fashion and led to designers flocking to dress her for any and every occasion.  Two of these pieces can be seen here. Both of these looks worked and showed her new fashion prowess, but I have to say that the second (the navy ensemble), although both pretty and stylish,  is not my cup of tea for Emma. Even though there is nothing necessarily wrong with it, Emma is just a tad too dolled up here for my liking. I much prefer when she lets her natural beauty shine and leaves us with nothing but chic elegance, which we will see later.

Image

Although Emma certainly had a huge climb in the fashion stakes it has to be said that (for me at least) 2009-2010 was when she undoubtedly made her mark. This was when she unapologetically showed the world that she was going to wear what she wanted, she was going to do it with confidence and that there was no way that she was going to follow trends, from now on she was going to set them. Her first head-to-toe perfection look was at the Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince premiere where she wore a stunning, floor length Ossie Clark print gown which paired with cute, pulled back hair, displayed an effortlessness which cannot be matched. After this she wore a golden custom-made Burberry dress with a zipper down the front, a black belt, black chunky shoes, simple hair and sexy eye make-up which altogether added up to what is one of my favourite looks that Watson has ever worn, if not taking the crown. It is chic, it is sexy and yet it still has class, something which can only be pulled off by few.

Image

Image

2010 was also the year in which Watson famously chopped off her long, golden locks and instead sported a cute, fashionable, pixie cut. This cut has been seen on a multitude of young celebs since, but Emma was one of the very first to brave it and she definitely deserves credit for that. Along with this new cut she decided to vamp things up in the wardrobe department leading to a huge turning point in Emma’s fashion career. This was the point when not just some people, but everybody knew to take her seriously in the fashion world. One such outfit is her controversial lace number below. This dress was an absolute knock-out and definitely a huge turning point in Watson’s fashion career. It was her most grown-up look to date and really made her the star of the moment. What finished this look perfectly, however, is the confidence in which she executed it, undoubtedly making it a time when she told the world that she had arrived. Upon reflection, however,  it is just a little too ice-skater-esque for my liking and her tan a little to dark. Thus, although a stunning piece at the time I prefer where she went afterwards as she returned to the more timeless, effortless beauty which I think she truly is by wearing more chic, demure and toned down pieces which is where her strengths lie in the fashion world.

Emma at the Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 premiere:

Image

Back to her timeless self:

Image

Image

Emma then continued down her high-fashion path with more stunning outfits during the premiere season of the final installment in the Harry Potter series. She continued to prove that she was not an actress to be overlooked, but a star in the making by pulling out all the stops and turning heads wherever she went. Even though there were mistakes along the way you can always see the fashion behind everything she wears and we forgive Emma for these mistakes as she is just too damn amazing to put in the bad books:

Image

Image

As you can see from reading through this post so far, Emma Watson has improved beyond belief and has become one of the most fashionable young women on the plant today. All of these stunning outfits that you have seen however have nothing on her most recent looks. In the past 2 years Emma has taken yet another step out of the fashion box and she truly has become an icon in her own right. She is effortless, she is chic, she is young Britain personified. Emma Watson has stolen my fashion heart and even though many may think that I am overestimating the beauty, it is safe to say that she is currently number one on the list of my celebrity fashion goddesses. Here are her best looks of the last two years to see if I can convince any of you to tag along on the Emma Watson style crush train:

So there we have it, Emma Watson’s amazing red carpet evolution. Yes she still makes mistakes every now and again and yes a lot of her looks are subject to opinion, mais á mon avis Emma is one of the most stylish women on the plant and she only seems to be getting better, and I can’t wait to see if she can find any room for improvement!

Chanel Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection.

Image

It is fair to say that Karl Lagerfeld is a legend among men in the fashion world and his latest collection is keeping in trend with his fashion triumphs. In Lagerfeld’s latest Chanel collection he played around and pushed the boundaries even further by creating a supermarket catwalk in which the models donned sportswear inspired outfits and showed how you can be both casual and chic. This quirky theme paired with models such as Cara Delevingne and Kendall Jenner brought the style hit to not only the high-fashion market, but also to a more broad consumer market, making this runway even more of an overall success.

Lagerfeld’s Autumn/Winter collection displayed numerous themes and various styling. One theme which was evident was drawing attention to what is arguably the sexiest part of a woman’s body, her waist. This was shown in different ways by both showing bare midriffs and also using outfits which cinched in the model’s waists. Not only has this been shown in Chanel’s newest show, but it was also a major theme in their Spring/Summer Haute Couture Collection making it clear that this is a Chanel stamp and distinguishing the brand from the rest. Another aspect of Chanel’s collection which I absolutely adore is the use of embellishment to create stunning iced pieces which glisten effortlessly down the runway, making a simple, yet very effective statement in any outfit.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Three more powerful themes in the collection were Lagerfeld’s use of knitwear, space-inspired leggings and bold, colours and patterns. With knitwear being a key focal point in the majority of Chanel collections this wasn’t anything new or too exciting, but what made the knitwear theme succeed is that special execution which can only be accomplished by Lagerfeld himself. Although possibly an odd choice, the use of space-like leggings added yet another touch of individuality to the collection and helped to brighten up some of the more dull looks showcased. The final theme in the collection which impressed me the most is the colour and pattern usage displayed on the day. Lagerfeld presented numerous outfits which played with the primary colours yellow, blue, red and green which if possible added yet another depth to the successful show. Although I don’t necessarily like how many of these pieces were paired on the runway and would argue that in some cases the styling of the patterns and colours were a bit too gaudy for my liking, I have to say that on analysis I think that most of the pieces, if styled carefully, could work amazingly in the real world (asides from the God awful green and blue leggings). All of this paired with slicked back hair, trainers (also seen in their Spring/Summer Haute Couture Collection) and trainer boots has led to this collection being an overall winner for me and most definitely for the iconic brand itself.

Zac Posen Fall/Winter 2014 Collection Completely Fails To Hit The Mark.

As you all know, we are currently in the midst of the wonderful NYFW and naturally the Zac Posen show was 1 of my most highly anticipated. That was, at least, until I realized that the designer decided to ditch his usual knock-outs and start designing for what seemed to be women in their 50’s+. Usually Posen hits the ball out of the park, but the combination of offensively boring knits, drab colours and mundane designs left me glad that I had music playing in the background to keep me awake. Not only did Posen showcase one of the most boring collections of the week, but he then added insult to injury with horrific styling including black tights and patent shoes… As if the dated designs weren’t enough! Thus, although Posen’s construction was flawless as per usual, he seriously missed the mark and left me well in need of some red bull to keep my eyes open towards the end of his show. Here are some of the tiresome looks presented by Posen on the day:

Although Posen’s collection was a complete miss, there were 1 or 2 pieces which redeemed him somewhat and these saviours can be seen here:

That’s it for my review on the utterly underwhelming Zac Posen Collection.

Monique Lhuillier New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 Collection Review.

Beginning with Bridal wear in 1995 Monique Lhuillier has come a long way and is now a celebrity favourite in both the bridal and red carpet markets. Lhuillier has a list of A-list clients as long as her arm including Gwyneth Paltrow, Katy Perry and Catherine-Zeta Jones and it is easy to see why from analyzing her 2014 Fall/Winter Collection at this year’s NYFW.

I am going to kick things off with the pieces which blew me away the most in Lhuillier’s collection. Although Lhuillier showed off separates including tops, skirts, jackets and pants it is undeniable that her strong point lies in the realm of dresses. From gowns to cocktails the dress world is definitely where Lhuillier’s talent lies and seen below are some pieces which prove this. Even though dark/gold and bejeweled seem to be what Lhuillier focuses on in this collection my 2 favourite pieces that she show-cased vary from the norm. Our overall favourite here at Landofpod has to be this stunning white cocktail dress with gorgeous pink embellishments on the upper part which finishes the garb off perfectly adding a final touch of elegance:

Next on my list and my 2nd favourite from the show is a bit different and most certainly more Gothic than the pretty designer usually presents on the runway which is probably why it resonates with me so much. Seen below is a well structured, mid-calf length Gothic dress with a high neckline, long, elbow-length sleeves and a dark, skull print making it a clear standout for me:

Next we will return to the more prominent theme of the show, namely embellished variations of the black dress. Here we have an intriguing fringed piece with lace detail at the top and a belt sinching the model in at the waist, a strapless bejeweled beaut with sheer, black fabric from the knee down and a stunning strapless gown with beading on top and an amazing tiered, shear ruffle effect flowing from the waist down:

Finally in the best in show section we have this gorgeous dull gold cocktail dress with wide, baggy, long sleeves, a beautiful gold pattern, black detail at the bottom and a belt to finish off the dress. Paired with the see-through, lace ankles boots this look is most certainly another winner:

Unfortunately for Lhuillier, not every outfit hit the mark and her major downfall, in my opinion, was found in her separates. Although there were some which worked, many of them proved to be underwhelming. Here I will show you guys 2 of her separate looks which left me wanting more and 2 more which failed to hit the mark:

Winners:

2 gorgeous, black, patterned, edgy outfits which outshone the rest of Lhuillier’s separates.

Losers of the night:

The 2 worst outfits of the evening which left me feeling underwhelmed and uninspired.

Finally, and perhaps controversially, there were a couple of looks in Lhuillier’s collection which reminded me a little too much of Elie Saab’s Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2014 Collection. Even worse than this, each of the similar pieces failed to reach the stratospheric standard set by Saab thus making me ponder why Lhuillier let these pieces walk the runway when not only did they come across as slightly copycat, but also weren’t executed quite well enough. Below are 2 of the dresses from Saab’s collection (on the left) paired with 2 from Lhuillier – see for yourself if you agree.
