Best Dressed | The Met Gala 2016 – Manus vs Machina

My favourite red carpet occasion of the year raised its stunning head and left us with a vast array of fashion at our finger tips.

The Met Gala is Anna Wintour’s night to shine and with an outlandish theme it always allows fashion’s bravest to push the boundaries and test their creative prowess. Let me begin this post by stating my 2 non-disputable rules for Met Ball attendees:

Rules for the Met Ball:

1) If you are going to attend the Met Gala then you follow the theme!

I don’t care who you are or what you do. If you are forking out thousands of dollars for a ticket to attend a fashion exhibition then you owe it to the event to at least abide by the rules. Just as important to remember is that that includes pushing yourself. Wearing a simple metallic dress does not meet my standards of following the theme… If I see you in a plain silver dress for a Manus vs. Machina theme – next!

2) If you do abstain from the theme then your outfit needs to be perfect.

If you are going to irritate spectators and be brazen enough to turn your back on the wondrous theme, that I’m sure has been painstakingly chosen for you, then you at the very least need to make sure that your off-beat outfit is absolutely flawless. If not, then why be awkward in the first place? If you’re not going to follow the theme and you wear a boring outfit then you might as well have stayed at home. This is a fashion event, darling.

That being said, the majority of stars and fashionistas alike did me proud this year and I was more than pleasantly surprised when scrolling through Vogue, Elle and Vanity Fair online (where the pictures in this post were sourced from). Thus, let’s get into it.

Best Dressed Fashionistas of the Met Gala 2016:

Met Gala Fashions 2015: The Worst.

As you will have read in my Best Dressed post, this year’s Met Gala was full of fanciful fashions and was certainly an amazing night for fashion too! Unfortunately however, there were those major, major, major, flops which were just inexcusable. Although they were shocking to the eye and very difficult to look at, they should make for an interesting post for you – so let’s get underway with the worst dressed of the Met Gala 2015.

Julie Macklowe:

Julie Macklowe

I don’t even know who this woman is, but between the cheap looking material, that God awful hair and the ugly pattern, this is the definition of a hot mess. Julie, whoever you are – you need to get a stylist!

Kris Jenner in Balmain:

slide_423004_5430292_compressed

Taking a leaf from her daughters’ books, Kris has sported Balmain, to her detriment. We all know that Kris tries to grab the limelight by any means necessary and this time it did not work to her avail. John Travolta hair, Egyptian earrings, a horrid dress and those pointy (I use that as a negative in this case) shoes all add to a look which would be better off set to the torch… Better look next time Kris!

slide_423004_5430426_compressed

Dylan Lauren:

Dylan Lauren

You’d think that the daughter of world renowned fashion designer Ralph Lauren would have good taste wouldn’t you? Well I guess you were proven wrong. This is an absolute disaster! This look is so eclectic, so cheap and so, so tacky. I honestly wouldn’t even let my little sister wear this for Halloween – the first time seeing it is scary enough! Everything here is wrong. The tulle skirt is hideous, the top is way too tight, that necklace looks like it’s the property of a 4 year old and then she finished it off with day-time Tv presenter hair. At least Julie stuck with the theme…

Lady Gaga in Balenciaga by Alexander Wang:

slide_423004_5431814_compressed

This look just isn’t flattering. Although sticking to the silhouette of ancient Chinese queens, this is too wide for her body and makes her look portly. That in addition to unflattering make-up and the super large sleeves/train all add to swamping Gaga and making her look silly. Not my favourite.

Jamie Bochert:

jamie-bochert-met-gala-2015-best-dressed

Jamie, who has modeled with Kendall Jenner for Givenchy looks like a cross between Frank N Further from The Rocky Horror Show, a cocaine addict and a prostitute… maybe that’s the look that she was going for? Whatever it is, it’s disgraceful.

Katy Perry in Moschino:

katy-perry-met-gala-2015

Katy Perry looked a royal mess. As is a theme through this post, I don’t have anything positive to say. I know that Moschino is a very out-there designer, but honestly this look just appears thrown together to me and was only made worse when he accompanied her on the carpet. Very disappointed indeed.

slide_423004_5430764_compressed

Grimes in Louis Vuitton:

grimes-met-gala-2015-best-dressed

Another D-list celebrity who should have stayed at home is singer Grimes. I understand that artists have a style and that sometimes they dress for their look as opposed to the event in mind, but this really just doesn’t fit the bill. I honestly find lazy looks like this to be disrespectful. You’re at the Met Gala and the theme is, “China: Through The Looking Glass.” Come on!

Grace Coddington:

slide_423004_5430190_compressed

Wow this is bad! For those of you who don’t know, Grace is the creative director of American Vogue. Personally, I love Grace from what I’ve seen of her in The September Issue. Unfortunately, that can not make up for the disaster that this ensemble is. It literally looks like she remembered the Gala twenty minutes beforehand and rocked up in her pajamas. She doesn’t have eyebrows drawn on and it looks like she hasn’t even gotten her roots done for goodness sake!

Coco Brandolini D’adda:

coco-brandolini-dadda-met-gala-2015-s

A supposed fashionista, Coco is yet another trainwreck. I appreciate that she stuck to the theme, but that is literally the only positive that I can think of. This dress does nothing for Coco, neither style-wise or flattering-wise. I am astounded as to why she chose it.

Anne Hathaway in Ralph Lauren:

slide_423004_5430236_compressed

Not only can Ralph Lauren not dress his own daughter, he completely misses the mark with A-list celebrities too. Maybe it’s the jedi mind tricks, but in my mind this is very Star Wars. The only compensation with this dress is that it fits like a glove, but there is just no excusing that hood. It’s a complete flop.

Irina Shayk in Atelier Versace:

slide_423004_5430274_compressed

Irina Shayk has horrendous style. We get it, you’re sexy. In fact, she is one of the most beautiful women in the entire world. Why then, does she need to flaunt it so often? Perhaps it’s because she’s turning 30 in less than a year? Or maybe she’s trying to show Cristiano what he’s missing? All I know is that for the sake of us who are interested in fashion, could you please cover up, get some style and mature in your fashion? Trust me, you’ll look so better than this mess and he’ll come running after you again!

Kerry Washington in Prada:

slide_423004_5430288_compressed

Kerry used to be such a stylish woman 2 years ago. I’d love to know what happened…This cheap looking fabric, so so colour and the green shoes are certainly not going to bring it back any time soon.

Selena Gomez in Vera Wang:

slide_423004_5430338_compressed

Looking more failed Spanish senorita than regal Chinese princess, this is not a good look for Selena. If this is anything to go by then I’d dodge Vera Wang when you’re picking your future wedding dress!

slide_423004_5430336_compressed

Chloe Sevigny in JW Anderson:

slide_423004_5430348_compressed

Known for her out-there fashions, Chloe Sevigny is definitely a fashion favourite. I for one, am not a fan however. This to me is so droopy and so frumpy. Even with her cleavage on show and an extremely high slit she still manages to look mundane. Overall I just don’t get her style.

Jennifer Lopez in Atelier Versace:

slide_423004_5431872_compressed

Similar to Irina, JLo is another one who I am sick to death of seeing on the red carpet. She always wears the exact same thing! I’ve said this in the past and I’ll say it again – we know that you’re hot and sexy, but please pump some originality into your wardrobe. Wearing your usual nude illusion skin-tight dress and adding a dragon to the front does not make it appropriate. To top it off, this looked even worse when standing beside the designer:

slide_423004_5432042_compressed

Cara Delevingne in Stella McCartney:

slide_423004_5430814_compressed

This look doesn’t work for 1 main reason – it’s too small. Cara clearly has an outstandingly beautiful body, but this jumpsuit is just too tight for her. The pants section is unflattering on her belly and then it looks as if the top is just pulling it up even higher. Overall the look is quite boring, asides from the tattoos (which I don’t think hit the mark), but the only reason that it’s in the worst dressed is because of the fit.

Chloe Moretz in Chanel:

slide_423004_5430372_compressed

Chloe is a gorgeous young girl, but this look is horrible. Although she has a slim figure, Chloe’s silhouette is very up and down and slightly broad. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that of course, she’s just not dressing for her body type! The choker, the placements of the shoulder straps and her posture all result in her looking quite squat and broad. This would have been much better with different accessories and if the top half wasn’t as tight. Try that next time Chloe!

Olivia Wilde in Prada:

slide_423004_5430808_compressed

Not a good overall day for Prada, this look is appalling! The dress alone isn’t the prettiest, but paired with those gloves and the headpiece, this is a disaster. The colour of the clutch doesn’t even match the gloves. This is a serious accessorizing mishap and everyone who had a part to play should be up for the sack. Such a shame for such a beauty.

Well finally that ordeal is over… Thank you guys for reading this post and I will have many more coming up in the near future! Follow me on facebookinstagram and tumblr to keep 100% up-to-date.

Oscars 2015: Best Dressed – Landofpod.

The 85th Academy Awards® will air live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013.

As you’ve seen from my Worst Dressed post, this year’s Oscars red carpet encompassed a flurry of styles. There was a lot to live up to compared to last year with Lupita’s Cinderella inspired gown, Emma Watson’s grungy Vera Wang ensemble and Kate Hudson’s sexy caplet all knocking it out of the park. From good to bad, slutty to demure and chic to drab, every style was explored on this year’s carpet however, and there were certainly some style winners. I am extremely excited to share my favourite looks with you guys, so without further adieu, here are my best looks from the 2015 Oscars.

Sienna Miller in Oscar de la Renta with a Christian Louboutin bag and Forevermark jewels:

691

gallery_nrm_1424650539-464156336

Sienna looked absolutely sensational and stole the fashion spotlight for me. Undoubtedly my number one best dressed of the night, Sienna embodies style, class and chic and I could not love this more. What’s amazing about this look for me is that it encompasses so many different aspects which in theory should not work together, but in reality are so beautiful. Velvet, lace, sheer cut-outs, ribbons and bows – I mean if someone described a dress like that to you you would never want to see it, but Sienna and Oscar executed it perfectly. Everything in this dress is perfection and every little detail, such as the stylized lines draping down the front of the dress, effortlessly adds to the overall effect. Sienna’s team then finished her look off with ease with her hair, make-up, Louboutin clutch and Forevermark jewels all exquisite. Well done Sienna – j’adore!

Rosamund Pike in Givenchy with Lorraine Schwartz earrings:

689

Just wow. Another lady who nosed on perfection, Rosamund was a very close second in the runnings. This red Givenchy is to die for. It is so elegant with the upward bust-line and her easy pulled back hair, yet it also has the perfect amount of sex appeal with a thigh high slit and waist defining panels. At first glance, I wasn’t sure if maybe she needed a little more accessorizing, but the more I looked at it I knew that I was wrong. The simplicity of the diamond drop earrings and those thin strapped shoes are the cherry on the cake and Rosamund looks absolutely breathtaking.

slide_402388_5048392_compressed

Eddie Redmayne in Alexander McQueen with a Chopard Watch:

693

Repping it for the men, although not the best poser in the world, Eddie Redmayne looked outstanding for his big night. Throughout the award season, Eddie has made a name for himself as a man who likes to play with fashion and who is very into his clothes – both of which can be seen here. This navy suit is impeccably tailored and the midnight blue works perfectly with his icy blue eyes. What sends this suit to a whole new level however, is the amazing addition of the velvet. And no, not only a velvet lapel, but velvet shoes! Definitely not something seen very often, Eddie has brought something new to the carpet and he genuinely could not have picked a better look to receive his first Oscar in – congratulations Eddie!

Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe in Alexander McQueen:

hannah-bagshawe-eddie-redmayne-oscars-red-carpet-2015

Yes, I know I just spoke about him above, but not only was Eddie my best dressed man of the evening, he was also half of my best dressed couple. Eddie’s wife Hannah has proven herself as quite the fashionista throughout the award season and last night was no exception. I adore this Grecian style gown and the neckpiece, waistband and additional feathers are all perfect. I know that some people are against the feathers at the hip, but I personally love them and think that they make the dress. All of the features combined with her easy hair and the fact that the dress is midnight blue, to match Eddie’s amazing ensemble, results in my unquestionable most stylish couple of the evening.

slide_402388_5048402_compressed

Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine in Armani Privé:

464153960

Another couple who impressed me were Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine, for pure sex appeal alone. I’m not 100% on Behati’s dress, but you cannot deny that the sexuality that you see when looking at this pair is through the roof. They just ooze sex appeal and lust and Adam’s suit is absolutely flawless – here’s my second favourite pair of the night!

Jenna Dewan in Zuhair Murad Couture with Stuart Weitzman shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Lee Savage clutch:

slide_405070_5049858_compressed

Jenna would not be one that I would usually look out for on the carpet, but wow did she take me by surprise at the Oscars. This Zuhair Murad creation is stunning on the petite beauty. Showing us and others (*coughs* Chrissy Teigen) the perfect amount of sex appeal for this ceremony, Jenna shines with her gorgeous embellishments, somewhat edgy jewels and the pop of colour with her lip which finished this off to a tee. Full marks Jenna!

Meryl Streep in Lanvin with a Salvatore Ferragamo bag and Fred Leighton jewels:

slide_402388_5049448_compressed

Flaunting a stereotypical Meryl look, Ms. Streep looks amazing and this is definitely one of her best looks in the last few years. She looks gorgeous from head to toe with every accessory being en pointe, in particular her earrings, belt and shoes. What this look shows us is that accessories can make or break an outfit and in Meryl’s case the accessorizing was sublime.

slide_404828_5049626_compressed

Chris Evans in head-to-toe Gucci:

slide_404828_5049628_compressed

This was another show-stopping moment for me. Chris is the epitome of a Hollywood class act here and could easily pass for an old Hollywood icon. This Gucci  ensemble is gorgeous and with his classic hairstyle and well-trimmed beard he looks devastatingly handsome.

Cate Blanchett in John Galliano with a Tiffany & Co. necklace:

gallery_nrm_1424651283-464157756

No surprises here as Cate is the definition of style personified, but yes Cate Blanchett is another of my winners. This John Galliano gown is everything with the unrefined shoulders adding a slight touch of boho. Clearly, what gives this look its oomph is that amazing turquoise Tiffany necklace though – divine.

Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein with Chopard earrings:

gallery_nrm_1424650214-464155864

After what I would call a rocky start to the awards season, Lupita came back fighting and once again has triumphed in this white Calvin Klein number. This dress is one which looks simple, yet upon inspection has so many intricate details. Although simple, it is a lot of dress for someone to pull off and Lupita does so flawlessly with her ebony skin creating a gorgeous juxtaposition with the gown.

Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford with Tiffany & Co. jewels:

slide_402388_5048916_compressed

This is one of those looks which will always be in style. When one attempts to wear a dress as minimal and simplistic as this the execution needs to be exquisite, something which Reese has nailed. The corsetry in this dress is impeccable, showing that a lot of fittings were needed. It all was worth it though with this being the perfect look to finish off Reese’s simple, but stylish award season fashion choices.

That’s it for my best of the best from this year’s Oscars ceremony, but I also have just a few more who almost made the mark that I’d like to discuss with you quickly.

The Almost Best Dressed:

Anna Kendrick in Thakoon with Norman Silverman jewels:

B-e8Fl1CIAAfaF1

This look seemed to get quite a bit of slack for being lack-luster, but I have to say that I really like it. I think that Anna looks gorgeous here and the chain part of the dress, dark eye and messy hair all add a touch of sex appeal. All in all though, I do agree that it needs something more make its way into the best dressed category. I give this look a 7/10.

Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent with a Bally bag:

gallery_nrm_1424648447-464153286

Like Anna’s dress, this is one which is very pretty, but just didn’t quite make it to the top spot. What I do love about this dress, however, is the asymmetric bust-line and corset which are very flattering on Dakota’s tiny frame. The shoulder strap is clearly also to die for and her slightly messy hair with the red lip polish the look off with ease.

Oprah in Vera Wang:

slide_402388_5049380_compressed

I think that Oprah looks marvelous here – she is glowing. Again, this look wasn’t quite a best dressed winner for me, but what I am absolutely in love with is how this fits her body. This is exactly how to wear a dress when you are a bigger lady. This Vera Wang gown hugs Oprah in all of the right places, it shows off everything that it should and the illusion created from the draping is stunning. This is an absolute 10/10 for dressing for your body and I am so happy that someone has finally shown how it is done. Thank you Oprah!

Keira Knightley in Valentino with Chanel accessories:

1424659740_keira-knightly-flashes-baby-bump-at-oscars-2015-1

This dress screams Valentino. The whimsy and ethereal nature of this dress is beautiful and soothing which is why it is the perfect choice for the pregnant Keira. It is so, so pretty and what makes it even better is that it fits is perfectly with Keira’s periodic style which she can be known for. All in all, she manages to radiate the perfect aura for both her and the event.

The Oscars 2015 Red Carpet: The Worst And The Not Quite Right.

The 85th Academy Awards® will air live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013.

The Oscars is unquestionably the biggest red carpet event of the entire year. With that in mind, it is arguably one of the most stressful award ceremonies for which to pick your outfit: it needs to be chic, stylish, stand-out and meet a certain level of class. Due to this, a lot of people seem to get overwhelmed before the big night resulting in a ridiculous number of blasé, yawn-inducing ensembles… Remember Anne Hathaway’s 2013 Oscar dress? Exactly. This year, the boring basics followed its usual trend with actors such as Jessica Chastain choosing extremely mundane looks. Thankfully, we always have those who try to push the envelope, thus ending on either end of the spectrum. So, to start things off, I’m going to being with my worst dressed attendees of the 87th Annual Oscars Ceremony.

Blanca Blanco:

slide_404828_5047870_compressed

I didn’t know who Blanca Blanco was until last night and my God do I wish I still didn’t know who she is now. What a horribly hideous dress this is. Usually one wears their hair up to let the dress do the talking, but in this case this dress needs to shut up. My only honest criticism is why didn’t somebody help her out by burning it before she put it on?

Gwyneth Paltrow in Ralph & Russo Couture:

slide_402388_5049210_compressed

What was Gwyneth thinking with this? I usually adore Ralph & Russo and as they are a very chic, elegant brand they would be a good choice for a ceremony such as the Oscars. This does not mean that they don’t make mistakes however, with this dress being one of them. The base of the dress is ugly in itself, but the addition of that flimsy rose shoulder detail is just horrendous. If you’re going to go for a boring silhouette with extremely unimaginative design then please Gwyneth, just leave it at that. Adding bells and whistles only makes the dress even worse.

Rachael Harris:

slide_404828_5048594_compressed

Is there any real excuse for this? I don’t think so! Get some God damn contacts Rachael and if not, at least buy a stylish pairs of specs like Meryl…

Diane Warren:

slide_404828_5048570_compressed

Last night being her seventh Oscar nomination, Diane Warren is clearly an immense talent. It’s just a pity that the same can’t be said for her stylist… The hair is what really kills me.

Will.i.am:

slide_405070_5048354_compressed

Bringing some men into the fold, last night was not a shining moment for the male Hollywood scene. Will.i.am is clear proof of that in this train-driver meets baseball team look. You’re at a black tie, red carpet event Will, throwing on a blazer does not take your look from music awards to classy. Give it up!

666

Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad:

chrissy-tiegen-oscars-red-carpet-2015

Another person who clearly thought that they were going to the Grammys is Chrissy Teigen. She undoubtedly looks gorgeous and the colour is perfect for spring, but she is showing off way too much skin for the Oscars. What I’m trying to say is, put the leg away, you’re not shooting for Sports Illustrated tonight…!

Nicole Kidman in Louis Vuitton:

slide_402388_5049176_compressed

I am so disappointed in Nicole Kidman’s Oscars dress. When the words Nicole Kidman and red carpet come to mind it’s automatically an exciting mix and something which I usually can’t wait for. At this year’s Oscars however, I was extremely let down. The dress, the hair, the make-up, the bag, the accessories – everything is so dull, so tedious and so tiresome. Where is the spark and where is the flare of style? I certainly can’t see them. Teamed up with her husband’s girly locks, they add up to my worst dressed couple of the 2015 Oscars ceremony!

slide_404828_5049374_compressed

Jared Leto in Givenchy with a Fred Leighton brooch and a Cartier watch:

slide_402388_5049284_compressed

Many people out there seemed to love this look, but I for one hated it. Firstly, we have the powder blue colour which might be in season right now, but doesn’t do it for me here. I also dislike the shirt. I think that the suit jacket and closed up shirt matched with his Jesus-style hair and full beard leads to a whole lot of problems. Basically, it completely swallows him, and suffocates his upper body – he has no neck in this whatsoever and it makes his upper half look squat. Finally, the biggest crime here is his shoes. The combination of the short pant and those optic white shoes is a catastrophe. All in all, it’s not going to go down in the hall of fame as one of the worst Oscar looks, but I am extremely disappointed in Jared.

Ansel Elgort in Prada:

slide_404828_5048442_compressed

Another man who failed to impress me was Ansel Egort and here’s why: I know that Ansel is young and that I always preach about dressing for your age, but in my opinion Ansel needs to grow up a little in his style. He is only 20, but he is still a man whereas here he looks like a little boy. The tux is not tailored properly to his body, his dickie bow is crooked and he’s still sporting a 15 year old boy haircut. I get that his fan base is quite young, but if Ansel wants to start getting some more mature, adult roles then he needs to begin by showing that he can look like one in person. Ansel, your first step is to ditch the oversized suit and get a fresh new haircut, I promise you that it will do you wonders!

Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels:

770

This is a look that I have seen some bloggers rave about, but for me it does the exact opposite of Ansel’s look above. This is so ageing on the star. Let’s all remember that Margot is only 24. This dress could be easily be seen on someone 15 years older than her and still been seen as a bit mature. The only youthful part of it is the low cut in the front, but even that is ruined by the chain which also reads old to me. Perhaps if she had done a twist on the Jennifer Aniston chest-chain which Jen has been sporting recently it would have added some much need youth into the equation? I get that Margot is trying to become a style icon, but this heavy black gown is not the way to get there.

Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa:

202215-cc-red-carpet-Karolina Kurkova

Gwyneth Paltrow 2.0, Karolina dons another tight, wrinkly pale pink gown which misses the mark. Let’s face it, this dress is as bland as a tray of hospital food. The dress is boring, her hair is boring and her make-up is boring. To add to the casualties, the fabric is wrinkly, it puckers in places and her toes sneaking out at the bottom are really creepy. This dress is one for the bin.

Felicity Jones in Alexander McQueen:

gallery_nrm_1424649193-464154206

I am so disappointed in this look. In fact, I have been hugely disappointed in Felicity’s overall style for the red carpet season. An undoubted talent, Felicity finally had her break-out role this year and this was her time to seize her moment. Instead however, she has faded into the background of every carpet that she has walked thus far. On top of that, the bottom part of the dress is hideous. I almost wish that she wore her Vanity Fair afterparty dress to the actual event, it had much more drama and was actually something interesting – I think that it would have been a far better choice:

main.original.585x0

Rita Ora in Marchesa:

slide_404828_5048728_compressed

This isn’t the worst dress of the night, but there is also nothing that I like about it. The gold appliqué doesn’t do anything for me and without it the dress is yawn-inducing. Another bore.

Lorelei Linklater in Gabriela Cadena:

664

Saving you one of the worst for last, Lorelei Linklater sunk her Oscars red carpet debut. The mash-up of three different dresses into one is just not a good idea and what’s even worse is that, I wouldn’t have liked one of those dresses even by themselves! Tragic.

That’s it for my worst of the night (thank God), but have a look at some of my not quite there looks below:

Looks Which Failed To Hit The Nail On The Head:

Julianne Moore in Custom Chanel:

gallery_nrm_1424650593-464156560

This is so difficult for me. I love Julianne and I love her style, I just don’t love this dress. Honestly, I don’t think that the background helps as it denies her body definition, but the nail in the coffin for this look is the band of embellishment below her waist. Do yourself a favour and just pace your thumb over the middle embellishment on the screen… infinitely better!

Josh Hutcherson in Ermenegildo Zegna Couture with Christian Louboutin shoes:

slide_402388_5048090_compressed

Josh naturally has a somewhat squat physique. What I think would have helped him to make the best of his body would be if he pulled in both his sleeves and pants just that little bit more. If both were a slight bit tighter and the pants were a little shorter then I think that he would look a lot better on the carpet. I do like that he went for a classic look however.

Anna Faris in Zuhair Murad Couture with Judith Leiber clutch:

slide_402388_5049102_compressed

OK, so this look was never going to be a best dressed winner, but I do genuinely think that if Anna had slicked her hair back into a simple up-do that it could be really pretty. It is a beautiful dress, I just think that if she slicked back her hair and deleted some of the train it would elevate the look to a whole new level.

Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab with Neil Lane jewels:

Another princess gown which hit the carpet. This dress is beautiful. It has whimsy, it has elegance and I love the nude tone with Jennifer’s skin. What I don’t love is the deep plunging neckline. We get it, you’re gorgeous and you have great boobs, we don’t need to see them at every red carpet. Personally, I just think that if you’re going to put in the effort to finally wear some clothes and go for a full ballgown look, then you need to commit, not be half slutty, half princess. Also, it’s not like she was planning on being demure later in the night, she wore a completely sheer Zuhair Murad to the afterparty! Just once, try and keep the girls tucked away a bit Jen.

Emma Stone in Elie Saab with Christian Louboutin shoes and Tiffany & Co. jewels:

slide_402388_5049308_compressed

This is another look which is tough for me. Emma is one of my ultimate style crushes and she definitely looks beautiful. What I’m not sure about here though is the colour. Normally Emma’s porcelain skin can pull off even the more daring of colours, but this one just doesn’t sit right. I think that maybe if the colour was stronger it would be nicer? It’s just a bit too similar to her own tone for me and because of that it doesn’t work. Also, it may be sacrilege to say this about Louboutins, but I hate the shoes.

Jamie Chung in Yanina Couture:

slide_404828_5047874_compressed

This dress shows promise, but also has some issues. The first is that the bottom half is too full. I think that if she took off one layer of mesh or just lowered the volume of the final layer then it would be much more effortless. Also, the pattern is a bit too literal ‘4th of July’ for me. The little firework explosions are all a bit carnival. I do think that the top half of the dress is gorgeous on her though and is something unique which could definitely work in a different context.

Marion Cotillard in Dior Couture:

673

Another ‘close, but no cigar’ ensemble. This is fresh, different and something which nobody else could have pulled off. What’s in question here is: did Marion actually pull it off? Although interesting, I think that the back might be a bit too odd and as it was in the same colour as the front, when you looked at her straight on she had no shape. One thing that is so important on the red carpet is highlighting your body and that’s something which Marion did not quite manage, thus hers is an iffy look for me.

So there you have all of my commentary for the worst and oh so close looks of the 2015 Oscars Red Carpet! SAG Awards Red Carpet: Best Looks.

This morning I woke up wondering whether last night’s SAG Awards would prove to be a further disappointment, continuing on from the Golden Globes. Thankfully, I could not have been more wrong! The SAG Awards have brought style back to the carpet in abundance and have set my fashion spark alight. Of course there were some shocking ensembles, but for once the positives balanced out the negatives and, although it was tough, I have picked my best of the night for you.

I know that I constantly say this, but to try and change it up a little I’m going to write as little as possible and let you guys decide what you think of the looks yourselves. I can’t promise that I will be able to completely keep my fingers off the keys though 😛 Have a look at my favourite looks below:

1) Sarah Hyland in Vera Wang with Lorraine Schwarz jewels:

So fashion forward and beautiful.

The next 3 looks complete my top 4 of the night:

Emmy Rossum in Giorgio Armani paired with Cartier jewelry:

Lupita Nyong’o in Elie Saab:

Lupita’s gown was one that took me a minute to appreciate, but I have to say that I love everything about this aesthetic. The bold colours, voluminous skirt and full-length sleeves all combine perfectly with her jewelry giving the outfit that finishing signature stamp. Also, Lupita’s beauty look was one of my top two favourites of the night with her hair, make-up and Fred Leighton earrings leading to utter perfection.

Reese Witherspoon wearing Giorgio Armani and Harry Winston:

Effortless and classic – and just look at how happy she looks:

Next, we’re going to move onto some other stunners of the evening. These looks didn’t quite make it to the very top of the pack, but they are all gorgeous and well worth a mention. As I said earlier, the style from the night was amazing in comparison to recent award ceremonies!

Camila Alves dons Donna Karan Atelier:

 Julianne Moore in Givenchy:

The red hair and emerald green can be seen as such a classic or such a stereotype, but either way it’s for good reason – as flawlessly illustrated by this goddess.

Jennifer Aniston in John Galliano 1998 with an Amrit body chain:

Love it or loathe it, this is a look that got people talking. Personally, I adore the fact that Jen took this look from the fashion archives and brought 1998 into 2015! She looks beautiful, her body looks amazing and that Amrit body chain is just everything.

21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Arrivals

Sophie Turner:

Granted, I am a bit Sophie Turner obsessed, so she could literally wear a bin bag and I would love it, but I think that this look is young, fresh and shows promise for where her fashion point of view is heading. It’s a very urban look for the SAG Awards, with her hair and hoops bringing in that ethnic vibe. I love that she’s keeping it youthful and although I didn’t initially like them, the shoes do add a personal flare.

Keira Knightley in Erdem:

rs_634x1024-150125164048-634.keira-SAG-Awards-0115

This will most definitely be a controversial choice and yes, I see why – just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean that you need to look like you’re wearing a moo moo! What I do love about this dress, is the colour and the sheer panel, both of which are beautiful on Keira. The only reason that this made it into my best dressed looks, however, is because of her beauty look. This is my favourite beauty of the entire night and I am just loving the Repossi ear-cuff with that bed-head hair and smokey eye – utter perfection.

Last, but not least, is probably another controversial pick, but one that I stand by.

Maisie Williams:

Maisie is only 17 and on anyone else I might not like this, but it is perfect for her age, her body and her style. She looks beautiful, young and stylish all whilst maintaining an element of class which young starlets often seem to forget when trying to grab the fashion headlines. Simply put, this look is pretty and I love her hair.

Well that’s all from me folks! Please let me know if you agree or disagree and if there’s anybody that you feel I left out.

As always, make sure to follow my blog and to see some of my worst dressed of the night head on over to my facebook page as I’ll be uploading photos of my least favourite looks throughout the day!

10 Things I’m Obsessed With From Vogue, The September Issue.

Yes, it is September and yes, New York Fashion Week has hit us with just about all of the fashion that we can handle, but let’s be honest, what is the most important thing about fashion in September? You got it – the holy grail and style bible itself, Vogue’s September Issue!

This year’s issue is absolutely glorious and although it did take quite a lot of weeding down, I have found my ultimate top 10 obsessions and here they are below:

Pastels:

Itouch 783 Itouch 786 Itouch 792

Pastels are huge this season, and to my delight! Imagine how much prettier the streets would be with everyone wearing light pastel shades at winter as opposed to heavy blacks and greys. I absolutely adore the blush pink and dusted blue shades shown above and think that they would be gorgeous on any skin tone.

Leather by Gucci:

Gucci’s stunning use of supple leathers is to die for. This soft, plush approach just amplifies the beauty of the leather in my opinion and again, I love the use of pastel shades and also the green and brown – it just looks so much better than if it were in black!

These stunning stills:

Itouch 844Itouch 798

I absolutely adore both of these shots. The Coach model (left picture) epitomizes fresh and beautiful. Fun fact, she is also in the latest Balmain campaign so is certainly one to watch. The 3.1 Phillip Lim picture on the right also captivates me. The simplicity of the shot combined with the contrast of the model’s camel and burgundy colours compared to the background result in a very interesting shot.

Giselle’s freckles and young Kate:

Itouch 800 Itouch 801 Itouch 828

I just love these shots. FYI this was Kate back in 2007!

The Fact that Kendall Jenner made the cut!

Itouch 790

OK, this one is admittedly a little bit sad, but I am a self obsessed Kardashian-a-holic and I am so fricking excited that my favourite young model has made it into the September issue (and she was in it more than once)!

Huskies:

Itouch 816 Itouch 818

For me, the ‘Call of The Wild’ feature was breathtaking. I can feel the atmosphere from the pictures and the icy blue eyes of the model and canines alike are magnificent. Also, huskies are my favourite dog which might have swayed me that little bit more.

Jimmy Choo’s Shoe Collection:

Itouch 829 Itouch 831 Itouch 834

I have fallen head over heels with Jimmy Choo’s new collection (see what I did there…?). My 2 favourites, however, have to be the shoes shown, particularly the ankle boots. I think that these are gorgeous and adore both the thick heel and thin ankle strap which, in my opinion, completely elevate them. As with the ankle boots, I also love the full-size leather boots and my favourite aspect has to be the heel which separates them and puts them in a league of their own (click on the image if you’d like to see the heel closer up).

Chanel’s Eye Make-Up:

Itouch 796

Dramatic yet soft and perfect for the party season. This beauty look displayed by Chanel is something that all girls out there should be keeping an eye on (I did it again…). This look would go with almost anything, from your LBD to the pretty pastels above certainly earns some attention.

Menswear-inspired Pieces by Giorgio Armani:

Itouch 837 Itouch 839 Itouch 841

Although not to everyone’s taste, I also love these menswear inspired looks by Giorgio Armani. The are edgy and masculine yet sexy and I think that the deep red lip really adds to each look.

Finally, this shot for Vera Wang:

Itouch 793

Raw, sexy, edgy, oozing allure – not something that you’d expect from Vera Wang. This picture is so sexy and so stunning that it deserved a spot all by itself.

So there you have it, all 10 of my obsession from The September Issue!
